UK Student Visas Go Digital: A New Era Begins from July 15, 2025

·

Starting 15th July 2025, the United Kingdom has officially phased out the physical 90-day visa vignette for students. In its place, a streamlined digital eVisa system is now in play—redefining how international students prepare for their journey abroad

What’s Changing?

Until now, students received a sticker (vignette) on their passport to travel to the UK. Not anymore. From mid-July onward:

  • Students must create a UKVI account to access and manage their digital eVisa.
  • Physical vignettes won’t be issued, except for dependents and children, who will receive both digital and physical documents.

What Should Students Do Now?

To ensure a smooth transition:

  1. Set up your UKVI account using the information provided in your visa decision letter.
  2. Check your eVisa details thoroughly—accuracy is key.
  3. Link your passport to the eVisa to avoid any travel hiccups.
  4. Generate a share code and provide it to your university, employer, or landlord for verification purposes.

Why This Matters

The digital eVisa offers several benefits:

  • Simpler Border Entry: Your visa status is verified electronically, ensuring quicker clearance.
  • Secure & Accessible: Easily share your immigration status with trusted institutions, including:
  • Universities (for enrollment)
  • Employers (for part-time work)
  • Landlords (for housing)
  • NHS (for health services)
